Press Release: Justgiving Pharmacy Charity a Fundraising Boost!

15th June 2009

Following its re-launch in September, Pharmacist Support, the leading national independent welfare charity for pharmacists and their families in Great Britain, has added an additional function to its brand new website which allows pharmacists to donate online.

The current economic climate has inevitably seen demand for Pharmacist Support’s services rise dramatically and applications for financial assistance almost double in the first quarter of 2009, placing additional pressure on the charity. Funded entirely by donations from pharmacists, the charity relies on the generosity of pharmacists to continue to help people in need.

The new online service makes it even easier to make a donation, whether this is a one-off contribution, setting up regular monthly payments or raising money through a fundraiser – all donations make a real difference to the lives of pharmacists and their families. Through the new service, UK taxpayers who donate via Gift Aid, entitle the Charity to receive an additional 25 pence for every £1.00 donated at no extra cost to the individual.

The online donation service is the most recent addition to the comprehensive website, which responds to the demands of modern day pharmacists. It offers visitors fact sheets containing help and advice on a range of subjects including stress, debt and addiction, plus a directory of third party organisations who may be able to provide assistance outside of Pharmacist Support’s remit if needed.

As well as offering financial aid, Pharmacist Support provides a range of confidential services including a stress helpline and debt and benefits advice to any member or former member of the profession and their dependents, as well as to pharmacy students.

Formerly known as the Benevolent Fund of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, the charitable organisation recently re-launched as Pharmacist Support with the aim of developing its range of services to meet the needs of the modern, 21st century pharmacist. The re-brand reflects the increasing level of pastoral care the organisation is called upon to provide, and has led to the extension of the charity’s support services to include advice on benefits, debt and employment.
